"Relax Tigers fans…the White Sox are Better"
My Response to Mr. Morrissey ‘RMorrissey@tribune.com’ :
Please consider the following statistics and comments when comparing the White Sox and Tigers. First off I do agree that the White Sox are a better team but some of your comments are ridiculous.
Let’s look at the White Sox starters for a second. Over their last 10 starts here’s the E.R.A. for the Sox rotation and their decisions.. Garcia 6.11ERA (3-5), Buehrle 5.88ERA (4-5), Vasquez 5.89ERA (5-1), Garland 4.66 (5-1), and Contreras 4.76 (4-1)… Not one starter has an ERA less then 4.5 in the last 10 starts..and they have a better pitching staff then the Tigers? Let’s do the same comparison with the Tigers. Over their last 10 starts each here is the Detroit Tigers rotation stats (no particular order); Bonderman 2.73ERA (5-1), Miner (8 starts for the season) 3.30ERA (6-2), Robertson 3.26ERA (4-3),
Rogers 5.25ERA (4-1), and Verlander 2.56 ERA (6-1). Are you sure that the White Sox have a better pitching staff?
Buehrle: You said he is too good, and he will bounce back. Have you looked at his second half numbers the last few years? And yes I know
Rogers will fall apart as well but the rest of our rotation will still perform if not get better when Maroth returns. And how could you insult one of the greatest catchers of our time if not the best? Do you realize that you said “ AL catcher over 2 worthy opponents (varitek and Mauer) but he is in better shape and now capable of stealing bases.
People who say the Detroit Tigers will win the World Series are moving way too fast. I would be very pleased with a playoff berth. But by no means can you write us off or say that we will not be there at the end in the race for the AL Central. The White Sox are better yes, but watch out for the Tigers…just don’t let your Chicago ego get in the way of being able to see that the Tigers do have a team capable of bringing some noise come October.
